“Power is not about controlling others; true power is strength, and empowering others with that strength.” This inspiring message resonated throughout the II Quarter Review Meeting of the WELEAD, which was successfully organized on 5 June 2026 at the Don Bosco Provincial House, Tiruchy. The programme was coordinated by the CAUVERI Development Office with the objective of strengthening women’s leadership, democratic participation, and constitutional awareness at the grassroots level.
The review meeting brought together 28 participants, including the Directors and Coordinators of the seven partner Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) implementing the project. The gathering served as an important platform for reflection, learning, evaluation and strategic planning aimed at enhancing the impact of the WELEAD initiative in empowering women to become active agents of social and political transformation.
The programme was graced by Fr. Doss Kennedy, Provincial of the Salesian Province of Tiruchy, Fr. Ricopar Royan, Province Economer, and Mr. Christuraj, Advocate and LEAD Trainer, who enriched the sessions through their insightful inputs and motivational interventions.
The day commenced with an engaging and thought-provoking animation session led by Mr. Christuraj on “Critical and Analytical Thinking on Power and Leadership in the Context of Contemporary Tamil Nadu Politics.” Drawing lessons from recent political developments, he emphasized the importance of identity, democracy, and responsible leadership. He highlighted that elections should not merely result in a change of individuals occupying positions of power, but should contribute to the sustainable development and well-being of future generations. Stressing the significance of grassroots democracy, he encouraged participants to promote political awareness, participation, and representation beginning at the Panchayat level, thereby strengthening democratic values and inclusive governance.
The afternoon session focused on reviewing the progress of project activities carried out across the seven CSOs. Detailed discussions were held regarding the implementation of youth meetings, support group gatherings, leadership-building activities, and awareness campaigns planned for the coming months.
The review meeting proved to be a highly enriching and motivating experience for all participants. The programme concluded with a shared sense of purpose and determination to ensure that women are equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and leadership skills necessary to participate meaningfully in governance and contribute to a more just, inclusive, and democratic society
