SIMCODESS-Young Leaders Promoting Equal Political Participation at GRT College, Dindigul

A training programme on “Youth participation in promoting women’s political leadership and democratic governance” was organized by SIMCODESS (WELEAD CSO Partner) on 19 June 2026 at G.T.N. Arts College. A total of 52 male and female youth participated. The programme began with Tamil Thai Vazhthu and Mrs. S. Santhiya, Potential Leader of Kethaiarambu Panchayat, welcomed the gathering.
Mrs. S. Regina, Head of the Department of Social Work, delivered the presidential address on the role of young citizens in advancing women in politics. She encouraged youth to participate in democratic processes and support women candidates. Mrs. Maria Leema Rose, Director of SIMCODESS, highlighted the importance of gender equality and urged male youth to work together with women for social development. Mrs. R. Elizabeth, Regional Project Coordinator, stressed the need for greater participation of women in law-making and highlighted the opportunities created through 50% reservation in Panchayats.
Prof. Benjamin Joseph spoke on women’s leadership and administrative abilities, while Mr. Visuvasam Gnana Arokiam, Secretary of SIMCODESS, encouraged youth to develop leadership skills and actively participate in community development. A group discussion on challenges faced by women in political leadership and the role of youth in supporting women in politics enabled participants to reflect on the importance of women’s political participation. Mr. Alex Gideon, Field Coordinator of SIMCODESS, proposed the vote of thanks and the programme concluded with the National Anthem.
