A Grand Celebration of Women’s Empowerment

On 06 March 2025, International Women’s Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Don Bosco Youth Village, Susaipudayanpatti, Keeranur. This marked the seventh consecutive year of the celebration. A remarkable number of 1100 Self-Help Group (SHG) members from 75 groups representing 31 nearby villages actively participated in the event.

Dignitaries and Chief Guests

The function was presided over by Mr. Sonai Karuppaiya, Thasildar of Kulathur Taluk. In his address, he highlighted the importance of channeling one’s inner energy for the betterment of society. He emphasized that when women’s energies unite, they create synergy that transforms society positively.

• Mr. Ananth Manikkam, President, Keeranur Town Commerce Association
• Fr. Ricopar, Rector, Don Bosco Care Home, Salem
• Fr. Ashok Lawrence, Director, Cauveri Development Office, Trichy

Each dignitary, during their speech, commended the efforts of women and encouraged them to continue striving for greater achievements. They collectively emphasized that “Women are agents of social transformation” and must empower themselves to assume leadership roles in politics and other forums.

WE LEAD Programme and Women Leadership

Don Bosco Keeranur is actively involved in the WE LEAD programme, an initiative that promotes and nurtures potential women leaders. This program is aimed at encouraging women to achieve leadership roles and contribute meaningfully to society.

Highlights of the Event

• Mrs. Julie extended a warm welcome to the gathering.
• Mrs. Arockiamary, SHG Coordinator, presented the Annual Report for 2024-25.
• The event was coordinated by Mrs. Jeyanthi and Mrs. Jancy.

All SHG members attended in their uniform sarees, adding color and grandeur to the event. Folk dances and cultural programs performed by women groups added festive charm.

Conclusion and Acknowledgment

The celebration concluded with a community lunch and the distribution of mango saplings to all participants. The entire event was organized and executed under the guidance and support of Fr. Barnabass, Director of Don Bosco Youth Village. His dedication and efforts deserve special appreciation for making the event a grand success.
