Empowering the Young, towards Water conservation

Event Overview

The Cauveri Planning and Development Office – Trichy, organized an Exposure Visit and Talent Expo under the ‘Water Conservation Project’ on 15th October 2024 at Don Bosco Thanjavur and Sengipatti Agri-farm. The event brought together 140 club members from six Salesian educational institutions along with Salesians and staff to inspire young minds about the importance of water conservation. It aimed to educate participants on sustainable practices for efficient water use and foster an environmentally conscious future.

Informative Session on Water Conservation

The day began with an insightful session led by Fr. Clan, SDB, who provided an in-depth understanding of water conservation management. He shared practical tips for preserving water resources in daily life, making the students reflect on their own habits and responsibilities. His presentation was both engaging and thought-provoking, capturing the students’ full attention.

Competitions and Talent Expo

A series of competitions, including poster-making, speech contests, mime performances, and quizzes, followed the input session. These activities allowed the students to showcase their creativity, teamwork, and knowledge of water conservation. The event fostered enthusiasm among the participants, and the winners were awarded prizes. Additionally, each participant received a stationary kit as a token of encouragement.

Field Visit to Sengipatti Agri-field School

In the afternoon, students were taken on a guided tour of the Agri-field School at Sengipatti. This hands-on experience demonstrated water conservation techniques such as drip irrigation, sprinkle irrigation, and rainwater harvesting systems at both terrace and ground levels. The highlight of the visit was the large rainwater harvesting pond powered by a solar motor system, which left a strong impression on the students. They were inspired by the innovative and eco-friendly methods in place.

Eco-friendly Farm Exploration

Students also had the opportunity to explore the eco-friendly farm, discovering various tree species, herbal plants, and sustainable agricultural practices. They enjoyed observing the natural surroundings, which included peacocks, tiny birds, butterflies, and beetles, creating an enriching experience for the participants.

Conclusion

The program was a great success, blending education with practical knowledge about water conservation. It raised awareness and inspired the young participants to become advocates for water sustainability in their own communities. The event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of various institutions, including Don Bosco Thanjavur, Sengipatti Agri-field School, and DB Alaihal Media team, all of whom deserve appreciation for their supportive presence.
